Look deeper into dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS)
What do you see when you look deeper?
Soft tissue sarcoma (STS) is a rare and heterogeneous type of tumour with more than 100 different histologic subtypes, and each subtype has a different clinical behaviour.1
Liposarcoma (LPS) represents the predominant subtype of STS, comprising 15-20% of all cases2
Among liposarcomas, DDLPS represents 15-20% of diagnosed cases2
Estimated proportion of liposarcoma2
MLPS=myxoid/round-cell liposarcoma; PLPS=pleomorphic liposarcoma; WDLPS=well-differentiated liposarcoma.
DDLPS is an aggressive subtype of liposarcoma with a poor prognosis3
Common symptoms of DDLPS4-6
A new visible lump that develops under the skin (not usually painful at first)
Painful swelling or numbness in the area around the lump
Constipation
Abdominal pain, cramping, and/or swelling
Blood in the stool and/or vomit
Cough or breathlessness
Look closer into the DDLPS disease burden
While DDLPS is an aggressive subtype of liposarcoma with poor prognosis, little has changed in the past 5 decades in terms of treatment modalities3,7
